Indigenous People’s Day | Cambridge | Free

Our annual celebration of culture and resistance. Highlights include Native American performers and speakers, handmade Indian tacos, cultural appreciation, 21CC, and community building. We’ll be honoring the incomparable Sarah-Ann Shaw, Boston’s first black female television reporter, who used her position to change the way people of color were portrayed in the news. The EE Circles℠ process is one of many strategies devised by CHN to build the movement for freedom from the lies of white superiority and Black inferiority, and other emotional legacies of enslavement and racism. EE Circles℠ are inspired by the self-help movement and grounded in the principles of Ma’at, the ancient Egyptian understanding of the fundamental order of the universe. This is the first full session of a seven-week journey into healing internalized racial wounds, community-building and activism. The House Slam at the Haley House Café is Boston’s New Poetry Slam venue located in the heart of Dudley Square. The venue offers awesome food, an open mic, a featured poet and a poetry slam every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month. The venue is free of cost and welcoming to all (18+). The poetry slam begins at 7:15 PM (sign-up upon arrival), the featured poet begins at 8:45 PM and the open mic begins at 9:20 PM.

Hacking Arts 2018 will mark the sixth annual festival held at the MIT Media Lab, fostering community and celebrating innovation in the creative industries: Design, Fashion, Film/Video, Gaming, Music, Performing Arts, Virtual/Augmented Reality and Visual Arts. Storytelling in the Fog | Dorchester | Free

Join renowned Boston performance artist, Valerie Stephens for a storytelling event in Franklin Park at the Fog X Ruin site. This is a sculpture made out of fog by that captures the magic and boundless creativity of people of all ages. Valerie has created a unique story that builds on the legacy of the cultural icon Elma Lewis, founder of the National Center of Afro-American Artists, who taught performance art to children in Franklin Park and invited legendary performers for community events. Valerie’s story will take us on magical adventures of princesses, princes, and creative heroes inside us all.
