In connection with her public installation in Harvard Yard this fall, Autumn (. . . Nothing Personal), artist Teresita Fernández will discuss her practice and ongoing research for this major commission by the Harvard University Committee on the Arts. On view August 27 through October 1, 2018, Autumn (. . . Nothing Personal) is a site-specific work built for Tercentenary Theatre in Harvard Yard. The title references James Baldwin’s 1964 text Nothing Personal, which was published as a collaborative book with photographer Richard Avedon at the height of the civil rights movement. Fernández’s project centers Baldwin’s text as a collective reading and asks members of the Harvard and local communities to use the sculpture as a social space to read, perform, gather, and debate.

Boston Medical Center – the region’s largest safety-net hospital dedicated to providing accessible health care to all patients – has already begun doing this. During this interactive event, you’ll hear from Boston Medical Center professionals who are leading the charge in the effort to create equal health care for all. We’ll explore the concept of breaking down our own barriers as well as eliminating bias and strategize on how to change the trajectory for minorities when it comes to accessing health care. Following the panel, join an ecosystem mapping workshop with Impact Hub Boston. Expect a hands on collaborative process where you can contribute to a systems-map to answer the question: “Where can we highlight and connect existing resources for social entrepreneurs of color, and how do we marshal more support and resources to support these efforts in Boston?” The ecosystem mapping results will be made available under creative commons licensing to the broader Boston impact community. We Ride Too | South End to Dorchester | Free
Connect with other millennials of color on a bike ride through the South End, Roxbury, JP, and Dorchester as we take over roads, enjoy parkways, and end at Dorchester Bike and Brew festival. Through this event we aim to create space to talk about challenges to biking as people of color, how to change misconceptions about biking, and point out opportunities to get involved to make Boston a more bike-friendly city overall. The ride will be about 10 miles, will have ride leaders to keep us safe, and will be completed in 2 hours including breaks, so you need to have some level of comfort on a bicycle. Please note also that there is currently no Blue Bikes station near Ashmont where the ride ends (though there will be soon!).
